Volunteer of the Month- October

Linda Graf

What is your Ellensburg story?

I’m from Lacey and moved to Ellensburg to go to school in 1988. Once I graduated, my husband and I moved away for a couple years, but came back because Ellensburg felt like home.

How did you first hear about, or get involved with, the EDA?

I can’t quite remember how exactly I heard about the EDA, but I’ve always just helped out whenever and wherever needed because I love this community!

Why do you think people should get involved with their community?

Well, it should be a no-brainer! Why live somewhere where you don’t know your community and its values? If you’re going to benefit from different things that the community has to offer, then there’s a responsibility to give back to it. I believe that when you give back you fulfill your own happiness.

What is your favorite part about volunteering?

I love giving back, but I also love the social aspect of it. I love meeting different people through volunteering and it makes me appreciate things we have in common, or might not have in common. It’s always nice to meet new members of my community.

What is your favorite thing to do downtown with your family?

We love to jump from place to place and sit outside at a restaurant when we can. It’s fun to go to multiple establishments, get a coffee at one place, an appetizer somewhere else and see as many people as we can. My daughter and I also love to stroll around town and shop.

Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know?

I think the more you interact and give back to your community, the better it’s going to be! There is a lot going on in this town, you just have to be willing to go out and find it. This town does a great job at balancing between events that reach different demographics. I challenge anyone to try something new downtown! Don’t just stick to your regular places, but take a chance and try something new. Also, try to volunteer at least once during the year!
