Executive Director- Salary Position

Job Summary:

The Executive Director is responsible for creating and managing programs and projects that meet the objectives, as determined by the Board of Directors, of the Ellensburg Downtown Association. The Executive Director promotes downtown activities, educates businesses, and serves as a collaborator, visionary, clearinghouse, facilitator and coordinator based on the four principles of the National Main Street Program: Organization, Promotion, Design, and Economic Restructuring.  The Ellensburg Downtown Association is charged with the economic revitalization of downtown, utilizing historic preservation as an integral foundation for downtown economic development. 

The Executive Director is an advocate of the Ellensburg Downtown Association, providing information and background on the goals and accomplishments of the Ellensburg Downtown Association to business owners, city officials and staff, and other interested persons.  The Executive Director will be a positive and energetic source for the long-term revitalization of downtown Ellensburg and will support the Ellensburg Downtown Association throughout the community.

Range of Duties:

The Executive Director duties will encompass a variety of tasks as determined by the Board of Directors.  Annual staff evaluations will be based on defined goals and objectives agreed upon by the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.

The Executive Director will:

  1. Be knowledgeable about the four-point Main Street approach to economic revitalization utilizing historic preservation.  
  2. Work with the President and the Board of Directors to develop and implement a yearly work plan for the organization and its committees.
  3. Supervise support staff and consultants.
  4. Manage recruitment, evaluation, and retention of volunteers, including members of the committees, special project volunteers, and short-term volunteers.
  5. In conjunction with the Board, develop and maintain funding sources including but not limited to Washington State B&O tax deductions, grants, tax incentives, partnership agreements.
  6. Coordinate partnerships with other organizations, agencies, and government entities at the local, state, and federal level.   
  7. Manage all administrative aspects of the Ellensburg Downtown Association, including purchasing, record keeping, developing and maintaining an appropriate data system, budget development, and accounting. 
  8. Prepare all reports required by Washington State Main Street program and by the National Main Street Center.  
  9. Assist the president and organization committee with the preparation of request and reports to different funding agencies.
  10. Direct efforts at business retention, expansion, and recruitment, including providing information, expertise, and appropriate referrals to business owners, marketing downtown Ellensburg to outside businesses, and working with developers and building owners to enhance the physical quality of retail and commercial space.
  11. Create and implement a program of regular, monthly contacts with existing and new members of the downtown commercial district to foster the support and participation in the Ellensburg Downtown Association.
  12. Assist individual tenants or property owners with resources for physical improvement programs.
  13. Advise and assist in programs, events, and activities to attract people to Ellensburg’s historic downtown. Work directly with the other community organizations to encourage joint involvement in downtown promotional events.  Attend such events outside of regular business hours.  
  14. Attend Board of Directors, committee, sub-committee, and task group meetings as necessary or as indicated by the President and the Board of Directors.  Provide assistance and management, as an ex officio member, in the implementation of the committee work plans for all EDA committees.
  15. Work with the Treasurer and any required financial personnel to develop and maintain the finances for the Ellensburg Downtown Association.
  16. Develop and conduct ongoing public awareness and education programs designed to enhance appreciation of the downtown’s assets and to foster an understanding of the downtown program’s goals and objectives.  To include, but not limited to:  managing social and print media; conducting speaking engagements, media interviews and public appearances to keep the program highly visible in the community.
  17. Write, edit, and publish digital information, print brochures, information packets, newsletter and flyers.
  18. Ensure that all outgoing materials adhere to the standards of the Ellensburg Downtown Association.
  19. Prepare necessary reports, summaries, and research projects.
  20. Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Board of Directors and the President.
  21. Job Knowledge and Skill Required:

    • Should have at least five years combination of education and experience in one the following:  business organizations, non-profit corporations, small business development, downtown development, public relations, planning, retailing, fundraising, historic preservation. 
    • Be a well-organized self-starter capable of working in independent situations.
    • Possess superior written and verbal skills are required.
    • Demonstrate a professional, team building approach with strong experience in facilitating community partnerships.
    • Should be proficient in computer skills including experience with Quickbooks or a comparable bookkeeping software.
    • Prior Main Street experience is strongly encouraged.

 

 

Board Member – Volunteer Position

The Ellensburg Downtown Association is looking to fill two seats on the Board of Directors with a dedicated and passionatevolunteers keeping diversity and equity in mind. The Board is legally and financially responsible for the organization and oversee the Executive Director. Each member of the Board of Directors is brought on after a Board vote. The Board meets the fourth Monday of the month at 4 pm on Zoom. Each Board member must also be on a committee (listed below this position). Committee Member – Volunteer Positions

The Ellensburg Downtown Association is currently looking for volunteers for the following committees:

  • Equity Committee: responsible for holding the Ellensburg Downtown Association to a high standard relating to equity and inclusivity within our program, events, and downtown district. Equity Committee will also manage the subcommittees Downtown PRIDE, Downtown ADA, and Downtown Anti-Racism.   • Promotions: responsible for driving traffic downtown through events and promotional campaigns. This committee meets the second Tuesday of the month from 12-1 pm. Average time requirement per month: 2-5 hours. To join this committee, email Committee Chair, Jodi Hoctor, at [email protected]
  • Organization: responsible for planning fundraising events, recruiting and retaining volunteers, managing the Volunteer of the Month social media program, and creating EDA promotional campaigns. This committee meets the third Thursday of the month from 12-1 pm. Average time requirement per month: 2-5 hours.   • Design: responsible for the beautification of downtown. This committee manages the downtown planters and street furniture, roofline lighting, pedestrian safety, and events like Downtown Clean Up and Downtown Planter Day.   • Economic Vitality Committee: responsible for supporting businesses downtown through projects like the new business packet, vacant storefront strategy, pop up shops, and more. Committee Member – Dachshunds on Parade

The Ellensburg Downtown Association is currently looking for people who are willing to help with the planning of Dachshunds on Parade. This committee meets once a month from January-June with more frequent meetings leading up to the event. Committee members must plan on volunteering at DOP 2020 (June 20) . Committee members are expected to attend a majority of the meetings. Meetings will be set based on the committee members availability.

Committee Member – Buskers in the Burg

Buskers in the Burg planning committee is responsible for assisting EDA staff in the planning and hosting of Buskers in the Burg, always taking place in the last weekend in September. Committee members help recruit stage acts and approve all busking acts. Members also plan Preview Night, edit/approve the Buskers Publication, and make all major decisions regarding festival layout, vendors, etc. This committee meets once a month from May – September with more frequent meetings leading up to the event. Committee members must plan on volunteering at the event in some capacity.

Committee Member – Hometown Holidays

This committee is responsible for assisting EDA staff in the planning of our annual holiday events (Plaid Friday, Cookie Scavenger Hunt, Moments to Remember, and Teddy Bear Tea) and the creation of our annual Hometown Holidays publication. If you love all things merry and bright, this committee is for YOU. HTH Committee meets July-December, once a month, at a time designated by the committee group. Committee members must plan to volunteer at a holiday event in some capacity.
