Calling all experienced visual artists of Kittitas County!

The Ellensburg Downtown Association, Ellensburg Arts Commission, Gallery One Visual Arts Center, and ArtsWA (Washington State Arts Commission) present Public Art Training. This is a free opportunity for local artists to develop their skills and enhance their career in public art.

Learn from experienced artists and facilitators, including local artists who have completed public art commissions in Ellensburg. Topics will include a public art overview, contracts, creating proposals and answering calls, building a portfolio including quality photos of your work, and more.

  • Session 1: Intro to public art: Is it a good fit for me? funding models, permanent vs. temporary, committees, paper-work, risk, scale, durability, public safety
  • Session 2: Putting together a portfolio/finding & applying to calls
  • Session 3: Interviews and proposal presentations / contracts / intro to Ellensburg sites
  • Session 4: Group presentations of temporary project proposals

At the end of the course, you are expected to present a public art proposal that may be selected to move forward in the Summer of 2020. Participation is free but attendance in all sessions is preferred. To participate, send in a brief statement about what you hope to achieve during these workshops and three images of your work.
