Tim Zagat and Jow Baum launched Restaurant Week in 1992, in New York City. Since then, the success has grown across large and small cities all over the country. It started as a week-long promotional event, but now some cities host the event for multiple weeks and sometimes more than once a year. It is an opportunity for restaurants to offer meals at different price points, which makes individuals with different budgets feel welcomed to participate. Restaurant Week is an opportunity for restaurants to impress customers with new dishes, give them a bang for their buck, and increase the traffic to their restaurant. It can also make a positive impact on the economy when motivating individuals to dine at small businesses.
In the past, the Ellensburg Downtown Association hosted the week-long Restaurant Week every February. This year, after speaking with downtown restaurant owners, a decision was made that people should have the opportunity to dine throughout the month. Instead of hitting multiple spots in one week, you are now able to space out your picks throughout the month. Three course meals are offered every Wednesday this month at 15 participating restaurant locations. Dishes offered on the menu are $15, $25, or $35.
Restaurant Month can be described in three words: simple, social, and specials.
Restaurant Month is as simple as 1, 2, 3…
- Determine how much you want to spend ($15, $25, $35).
- Choose a restaurant under that price category.
- Show up to that restaurant on any Wednesday in February and order the special.
Restaurant Month is a time to be social. Invite your friends or family to enjoy the experience with you. Blue Rock Saloon and The Lunchbox both have specials made for two people to enjoy the experience together! Make sure to share photos of your favorite Restaurant Month dishes on social media. Not only will more people be aware of the yumminess, but it supports and markets our downtown restaurants.

You only have three Wednesdays left in February to take advantage of these Restaurant Month specials. Some dishes you might have tried before, some are revamped, and some are completely new to the menu. Whether you are looking for something small yet scrumptious, like Gard Vintner’s Cougar Gold Cheese Plate and drink of choice, or something filling and savory, like Ellensburg Brew’s Bavarian Meatloaf, there is something on the Restaurant Month menu to satisfy your cravings.
The Ellensburg Downtown Association, and participating restaurants, hope you get the opportunity to experience Ellensburg Restaurant Month. Simply pick a participating restaurant, grab a friend to share the experience with, and enjoy the specials! As always, #lovedowntowneburg and happy eating!
