A few months ago, I sat in the Career Services office at CWU, deciding where I would like to apply for an internship. They have a binder with sections specific to your major. I flipped through options and highlighted the options I felt best fit for me. I called the Ellensburg Downtown Association office and spoke with Faith, and she scheduled a time for me to come in and talk about the possibility of an internship. I met with Molly, Faith and Carolyn on a Friday afternoon in April. Now here I am, writing what is has been like to intern for the EDA this summer.
I started my internship on June 19th this summer. My first couple days on the job, I practiced navigating social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. I have shared Facebook events happening downtown, and posted pictures daily on Instagram. This has become one of my favorite tasks because I love sharing photos that show off downtown Ellensburg’s historic features.
Upon keeping up with the EDA’s social media, I have written columns for The Daily Record. I have also written several blog posts, including this one, for the EDA’s website. I have enjoyed the tasks of writing because I get to share with others all the great parts of downtown and promote community involvement. As a current student at CWU, I have appreciated the opportunity to view downtown Ellensburg as more than the town close to my campus. I have experienced so much life here and I have loved the chance to get to share those moments with all of you. There are many things I love about downtown Ellensburg, but learning about new businesses and meeting new people has been a highlight for me.
Every day at the EDA has involved a new task. Like a snow flake, no two days have been alike. I have truly enjoyed that factor. Interning here this summer has been a rewarding experience and I could not have asked for a better place to get involved with. I am hoping to join a committee after my internship is over to stay involved with the EDA.
